This season, we’re thrilled to reintroduce one of our favorite chilli cultivars — the delightfully unique Bishop’s Crown, affectionately named Kudzu. As part of our “My Chilli Garden” collection, Kudzu has taken root in its dedicated pot, proudly labeled and already pushing out vibrant green growth as we roll into spring 2025.

Named for the shape of its fruit — resembling a bishop’s hat or a bell with three distinct lobes — Bishop’s Crown chillies (Capsicum baccatum) are not just eye-catching; they pack a sweet heat that makes them ideal for sauces, salsas, or snacking straight from the garden. Kudzu has already shown promise with strong early growth, healthy leaves, and a perky disposition that’s hard to miss.
🪴 Planting Timeline
Kudzu’s journey began in late February with careful propagation, followed by its official transplant on March 30, 2025. We made sure to document everything on its pot for a personal touch — from dates to its variety name — giving it a rightful place in the spotlight of this year’s chilli lineup.
🧸 A Garden with Personality
What sets our garden apart this season is the blend of serious growing and a bit of fun. Each pot, including Kudzu’s, is watched over by a quirky mascot, adding charm and playfulness to the space. Gardening isn’t just about yield — it’s about joy, creativity, and connection.
🔍 What’s Next for Kudzu?
With steady care and a bit of sunshine, we expect Kudzu to flower in the next month or so. From there, it’s a countdown to those distinctively shaped, mildly spicy fruits that make Bishop’s Crown such a standout in any collection. As temperatures rise, we’ll keep the soil moist, the nutrients balanced, and the updates coming.
